From WEDI's July Summer Forum, we present our keynote from ONC's deputy national coordinator, Steven Posnack. Over the summer, ONC launched a new initiative to plot out interoperability goals to drive the industry forward this decade. Through its Health Interoperability Outcomes 2030 project, ONC plans to publish a prioritized set of "aspirational and achievable" interoperability goals that align with the 2020 to 2025 version of ONC's federal health IT strategic plan. We welcomed Steven to the forum to discuss the project, his initial findings and how the industry's feedback will help ONC coordinate and focus collective actions toward interoperability outcomes.

The workgroup meets monthly to identify and work towards resolution on all implementation issues related to securing, and protecting health information across the industry.. They facilitate the review of privacy and security beyond HIPAA/HITECH in the growing areas of EHR, HIEs, HIX’s and interoperability.

This week, Matthew welcomes Amy Bassano, Deputy Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMS Innovation Center) at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Created 10 years ago through the ACA, the Center (CMMI) is tasked to test alternative payment models in Medicare and Medicaid. Amy offers a review of the past 10 years, how the pandemic affected value based care, and addressing the future through innovation, specifically artificial intelligence.

This week’s episode comes courtesy of WEDI's virtual event on ransomware held in late 2020. This one day summit highlighted the growing concern of ransomware and other cyberattacks facing the healthcare industry, a concern that continues to this day. Our keynote for that event was Jeanette Manfra, Global Director of Security and Compliance at Google Cloud. Prior to Google Cloud, Jeanette was the Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications for the US Department of Homeland Security.
